Captain's Match Report
As I sit here watching the first round of the PGA Championship I am reminded of our enjoyable day out at Boughton Golf Club last Friday.
32 of us turned out in the sunshine to do battle on this hilly but picturesque course. This comprised of 29 members and 3 guests.
The day started with a delicious full english breakfast although we were expecting a bacon roll. I’m sure the change was appreciated by everyone.
The course is in good condition and although some of the holes are not long they are very tricky.
Scoring was not quite as high as last month but as always it was very competitive. The average score was 29 and the winning score achieved by Derek Reed was 39, this meant that Derek also was the Division 1 winner. Derek received the summer trophy for his effort only to find subsequently that this was not the right trophy for this month and he will get the correct trophy next month.
The winner of Division 2 was John Peachey with 36 points. John was in my group and was a well deserved winner as he played very steadily rarely getting into any trouble.
The winner of Division 3 was Adrian Reeman with 38 points.
The nearest the pin on the par 3 hole winners were Paul Damper on the 3rd, Bob Crouch on the 7th, Dave Verga on the 9th and Barry England on the 12th. Nearest the pin in 3 strokes on the 8th was Derek Reed.
The best guest winning the bottle of wine was Martin Vousden.
Unfortunately I am unable to be with you at Lullingstone next month as I am on holiday so Tony Jacobs will be handing out the trophies. I hope you all have a good day on this long course.
