Captain's Match Report
As I drove to Kings Hill Golf Club, I reflected back to last year when the day was cancelled due to snow. Fortunately this year was so different and it was with eager anticipation of the day ahead that I arrived bright and early, partook of a coffee and awaited the arrival of my fellow golfers. Kings Hill always has an excited feel about it being our Christmas venue. What with bacon rolls, golf, a two course meal and Secret Santa presents. Not to mention Santa Claus, (alias me, unbeknown to the happy golfers). After the usual messages of the day, everyone toddled off to get ready and start their rounds, (except Gilbert Louzado), who decided to keep me company as he was in the last group out. Little did Gilbert know that I just needed him to go so as I could get changed into my Santa Claus outfit!! My initial plan being to meet the players at the first tee then station myself at the 11th, toast each group as they came through. Then, topped up with sausage rolls and chocolates, send them on their merry way. Having arrived at the 11th, I realised I was in for a long wait! So, with a new plan I headed to the 4th hole just in time as the first group arrived. Here I stayed until all groups had gone through. Having toasted 8 groups I’m feeling a little light headed. Part tipsy and in charge of the buggy, I head (not always in a straight line) to the 11th hole where I await the players and do it all over again, (this time with more circumspect measures of alcohol for me). All I can say gentlemen is “you must have been thirsty!!” There was precious little left for me to dispose of, mostly empty bottles, no sausage rolls and a few sweets, mainly the hard ones that nobody wanted!! On the golf front there were a few good scores even allowing for the alcohol. Sean and Ian, well done on winning Divisions 1 & 2. Mark Parsons, many congratulations on winning Division 3 and the overall winner of The Christmas Cup with 39pts. Well done to all winners of nearest the pin on the par 3’s and NTP in 3 at the first. Our thanks go to the Kings Hill staff who looked after us so well and served up a tasty two course meal and the pro-shop staff who generously provided me with a buggy ex gratia.
There is so much more I would like to say but from the bottom of my heart I wish all members of MAGS a “Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Peaceful and Healthy New Year 2024”.
I look forward to the company of as many of you as possible on the
19th January 2024 at Upchurch.
