Captain's Match Report

Despite a distinct chill in the air, 28 members and 3 guests turned up to enjoy amazing company and compete for the Autumn Shield.

The day kicked off with delicious bacon rolls (aka full English breakfast 🤣), and copious amounts of lukewarm coffee. After the usual announcements for the day, I was delighted to present Mike Kingsman with his trophy for beating off stiff competition and winning the Summer Matchplay Tournament.

I was paired up with Trevor Woods, Bill Bevon and Katrina Howard. Despite the amount of rain we had had in the weeks beforehand, the course was in reasonable condition for the time of year, and overall, I thought the greens ran pretty true. However, as far as the rough was concerned, this was on a completely different level. Find your ball, and you count yourself lucky. Try to play out from it, and frustration kicked in on a scale of 1 to 5. No. 1 being mildly put out to No. 5, resulting in various levels of verbal extremities. That being said, I am prepared to introduce Level 6 for Paul Damper, who, like the rough, took frustration to a completely different level. Back at the Clubhouse, we were treated to a rolling meal of Ham, Egg and Chips (aka Steak & Ale Pie 🤣), which was very nice irrespective of what arrived on your plate.
